Okey O. Kessel

Okey O. Kessel, 77, of 909 Washington Ave., Nitro, died Sunday in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He attended the Freedom Bible Church at Scott Depot. He was a retired pipefitter for Union Carbide, Institute Plant, with 31 years service and was a member of the International Association of Machinists. He was a native of Long Ridge, Roane County.

Surviving: wife, Bessie B. Kessel; daughter, Mrs. Joyce Eggleton of Scott Depot; sons, Guy Madison Kessel of Olathe, Kansas and James Wayne Kessel of Ravenswood; brother, W. O. Kessel of Bradford, PA; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cavender and Mrs. Macel Hull, both of Charleston; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cooke-Pauley Funeral Home, Nitro, with the Rev. Dorris E. Walls officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at today at the funeral home.

VERNON, Mich -- Opie K. "John" Kessel, 69, of Vernon, formerly of Rand, was dead on arrival Monday at an Owosso, Michigan hospital of an apparent heart attack.

He formerly lived in Rand 30 years and was a retired painter from E. I. DuPont at Belle where he was employed 30 years. He was a charter member of the Rand Volunteer Fire Dept.

Surviving: sons, Lewis K. and Howard M. of Durand, Mich.; brothers, William O. of Bradford, Pa., Okey O. of Nitro; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cavender and Mrs. Macel Hull of Charleston, Mrs. Orpha Brisendine of Clendenin.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Bellows Funeral Home, Durand, Mich., with the Rev. Wilson Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Durand.

Orpha Belle Kessel Brisendine

Orpha Belle Kessel Brisendine, 89, of Clendenin died May 25, 2002 at home after a long illness. She was born March 1, 1913 at Long Ridge, Roane County to the late Guy Winton and Clora Alice Dodd Kessel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. "Babe" Brisendine on Sept. 15, 1992 and daughter, Martha Ellen Brisendine.
She was a member of the Clendenin Advent Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge No. 126, Clendenin.

She is survived by her sons, Tom and his wife, Iris of Nitro, John and his wife, Elizabeth of Madison, MO; daughters, Anna Osborne of Clendenin and Carolyn Anderson and her husband, James of Beckley; sister, Anna Macel Hull of Charleston; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin with the Rev. Nahum Balser officiating. Burial will be in Clendenin Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Guy W. Kessel, 75, Dies at Home at Frame

Guy Winton Kessel, 75, former employee of the United Fuel Gas Co., died Thursday at his home, Frame, Rt. 1. He was a member of Walton Lodge A. F. & A. M. No. 150, Walton IOOF Lodge No. 132 and the Sandy Knob Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clora Kessel; six sons, James E., Steubenville, O., William O. Bradford, Pa., Roy and Kelvie of Rand, Okey, Dunbar and Marvin, Limestone, NY; four daughters, Mrs. Lessie Paxton, Spencer, Mrs. Arthur Brisendine, Frame, Mrs. Pearl Cavender, Rand and Mrs. Maysel Cantrell, Rensford; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Bell Casto; three brothers, George L., North Charleston, Oak, Dunbar, and Kenney of Kentuck; 40 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Sandy Knob Church. Rev. Early Abbott will officiate. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery. The body was removed yesterday from the Albert Myers & Son Mortuary, Elkview, to the residence.

MRS. MOLLIE ADAMS ANSWERS LAST CALL

Mollie J. Adams, 76, one of Spencer's best beloved matrons, died quietly at her home in Market St. at 11:40 Tuesday night after ...... Last rites will be held from the family residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Winton R. Houck, pastor of the St. John's Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the Spencer Cemetery with the Hardman-Conrad Mortuary in charge.

Mrs. Adams was born in Roane County a daughter of the late Hezekiah and Jemima Vandale Miller. She was united in marriage to the late Phillip C. Adams, prominent Spencer banker and business man and has lived at Spencer more than 50 years. She was active in the work of her chosen church, the Presbyterian, was a member of a number of social organizations and for many years was one of the city's most charming hostesses.

Surviving are three sons, Ernest of Charleston; Harry of Spencer; and Phillip Jr. in the U.S. Army stationed at Georgetown, Delaware; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Adams Price of Spencer and nine grandchildren.
