Obituaries : Opie K. "John" Kessel

VERNON, Mich -- Opie K. "John" Kessel, 69, of Vernon, formerly of Rand, was dead on arrival Monday at an Owosso, Michigan hospital of an apparent heart attack.

He formerly lived in Rand 30 years and was a retired painter from E. I. DuPont at Belle where he was employed 30 years. He was a charter member of the Rand Volunteer Fire Dept.

Surviving: sons, Lewis K. and Howard M. of Durand, Mich.; brothers, William O. of Bradford, Pa., Okey O. of Nitro; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cavender and Mrs. Macel Hull of Charleston, Mrs. Orpha Brisendine of Clendenin.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Bellows Funeral Home, Durand, Mich., with the Rev. Wilson Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Durand.
