[b]VERNON, Mich -- Opie K. "John" Kessel[/b], 69, of Vernon, formerly of Rand, was dead on arrival Monday at an Owosso, Michigan hospital of an apparent heart attack. He formerly lived in Rand 30 years and was a retired painter from E. I. DuPont at Belle where he was employed 30 years. He was a charter member of the Rand Volunteer Fire Dept. Surviving: sons, Lewis K. and Howard M. of Durand, Mich.; brothers, William O. of Bradford, Pa., Okey O. of Nitro; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Cavender and Mrs. Macel Hull of Charleston, Mrs. Orpha Brisendine of Clendenin. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Bellows Funeral Home, Durand, Mich., with the Rev. Wilson Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Durand.
