Emogene Harris Allen

New Knoxville - Emogene Harris Allen, 75, of 19100 East Shelby Road, New Knoxville, died on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at her home.

Helen Emogene Harris was born on Nov. 6, 1934, in Great Bend, Meigs County, the daughter of Dexter and Helen (Proffitt) Harris. Emogene was involved with cooking and sewing in home economics while in school. At county fairs she entered cooking, canning, baking and garment making contests. She graduated from Racine High School in 1952, and on May 30 of the same year married Howard R. Allen of Pomeroy, whom she met two years earlier in her hometown of Great Bend. Together they raised five children.

She is survived by her husband Howard R. Allen, of New Knoxville; three brothers, Dale (Jean) Harris of Grove Hill, Ala.; Paul (Marilyn) Harris of Racine, Charles (Waynita) Harris of Portland; five children, Cindy Lou (Michael) Fort of Indianapolis, Ind., Krista Sue (Roger) Wulber of Willowdell, H. Steven Allen of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael C. (Jenny) Allen of New Knoxville, Daniel H. (Shelby) Allen of New Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Emogene worked in a Bible Bookstore in Xenia for a number of years. She also coordinated and traveled for the Xenia Chapter of the American Red Cross doing presentations to promote Red Cross Blood Mobiles.

In 1962, Howard and Emogene Allen first took the foundational class on Power for Abundant Living offered by The Way Ministry and began their nearly five decades of involvement with the ministry. From 1966 through 1998, Emogene managed The Way International Bookstore operations. It was in this capacity that she was instrumental in developing many of the procedures for mail order and item preparation, inspection, and distribution that later branched off into other Departments at The Way International Headquarters. In 1977, Howard R. Allen was installed as the second Secretary-Treasurer of The Way International, and Emogene faithfully supported him in this service.

Emogene and Howard received the distinction of First Way Corps (a ministerial training program) in 1994 and recognition as emeritus Way Corps in October of 1998. Together they served with faithfulness and commitment to God and the ministry. With loving and dedicated service to God's people, Emogene's example has inspired many followers of The Way. She awaits the return of Christ and the rewards of the future.

A recognition service will be held at The Way International Headquarters in New Knoxville.

Margaret Keeling Killen
Homemaker was Jefferson Avenue UM Church member
Margaret Keeling Killen, 93, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born January 10, 1916, in Washington, a daughter of George J. and Mary Allen Keeling.
Mrs. Killen was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church.
She attended Immaculate Conception High School and Washington High School.
A homemaker, she was past matron of the former Lincoln Chapter 112 Order of the Eastern Star and member of Evening Star Chapter 187 Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of Southwestern Pennsylvania Genealogical Society and National Pike Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
On February 9, 1934, in Wellsburg, W.Va., she married Harry Edward Killen Jr., who died February 13, 1989.
Surviving are a son, Harry E. (Lois) Killen III of Washington; a sister, Mary Roth of Washington; four grandchildren, Debra, David, Harry IV and Donna; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by a brother George J. Keeling, Jr., and a sister Catherine Hammond.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14, with the Rev. John P. Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, 160 Jefferson Ave., Washington, PA 15301, or a charity of one's choice. Pauline W. Larch, 89, of Newark, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010.
She was born at Walton, a daughter of the late Roma and Ora Harper Walker. She graduated from Walton High School, raised her family in St. Albans and lived in Cross Lanes before moving to Ohio. She attended Charleston Business College and retired after 20 years of service with the W.Va. State Health Dept. She was a member of Bible Center Church, Charleston, and First Baptist Church, Heath, Ohio. She was involved in Young at Heart and Friends Forever.
She is survived by three daughters, Christena Walsh of Heath, Cheryl Lilly of Newport News, Va., and Cara Nightengale of Marengo, Ohio; two sisters, Annilee Conley of Spencer and Lucille Miller of Charleston; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Arthur H. Larch.
Service was Wednesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, with Pastor Wally McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in Newark Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 525 S. 30th St., Heath OH 43056.

Arthur H. Larch, 90, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of St. Albans and Cross Lanes, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at his home.
He was born at Walton, the son of the late Lewis and Effie Coon Larch. He moved to Newark in 1988.
He was retired from Union Carbide Corp. in South Charleston after 39 years of service. He was a founding member and president emeritus of the former Tech Center Employees Credit Union in South Charleston. He was a member of Heath First Baptist Church and belonged to the ?Young at Heart? Christian group and ?Friends Forever.?
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline; three daughters, Christena Walsh of Heath, Ohio, Cheryl Lilly of Newport News, Va., and Cara Nightengale of Marengo, Ohio; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Larch and two sisters, Beatrice Shafer and Olive Larch.
Service was Tuesday at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home with Pastors Noel Dear and Wally McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Jesse Tanner, of near this place, died on last Saturday morning in his ninety-first year. On Tuesday before he apparently died for a few minutes but soon revived and was in his right mind. Among other things he said "I will have this all to do over again" evidently referring to his death on Tuesday.
