The Roane County Journal is a quarterly publication of the Roane County Historical Society. Each 24 page issue of the Journal is filled with articles which may include Roane County history, census records, marriage records, birth and death records, photos, family histories, maps and queries from other Roane County researchers.

The Spencer City Directory is 64 pages that include residents' households, with members of the family listed, along with their addresses, street directory, clubs and societies, churches, distances from Spencer to other cities, a history of Spencer, classified business directory and advertisements.

The Founders of Roane County, by Phillip L. Crane, reprinted by RCHS with his permission, 42 pages. This book tells the story of Roane Counties formation and the problems that were encountered with the establishment of the new county's boundaries and county seat. In preparing this volume, Mr. Crane traveled to Richmond, Virginia and scanned the original signatures of over 300 citizens on the petition requesting the formation of a new county. From these signatures, he researched census reports, history books, and other sources to ascertain for each individual, age, occupation, residence and place of birth.
