The Founders of Roane County, by Phillip L. Crane, reprinted by RCHS with his permission, 42 pages. This book tells the story of Roane Counties formation and the problems that were encountered with the establishment of the new county's boundaries and county seat. In preparing this volume, Mr. Crane traveled to Richmond, Virginia and scanned the original signatures of over 300 citizens on the petition requesting the formation of a new county. From these signatures, he researched census reports, history books, and other sources to ascertain for each individual, age, occupation, residence and place of birth.
