Recently the Roane County site went up for adoption on WVGenWeb, and the Roane County Historical Society stepped up as the new sponsor. Rick Greathouse is the new county coordinator, and Richard Griffith will be assisting him. The first step was to move the site to a new home at www.wvgenweb.org/roane.

The original Roane County Genealogy Project was a labor of love by the late Pat Barnes, and it nice to have the site back where the RCHS can provide support for this valuable resource.

The WVGenWeb Project is the West Virginia branch of the USGenWeb Project. There are several stipulations for a WVGenWeb site which make it preferable to keep the Historical Society site separate from the Roane County WVGenWeb site. At present, the new site is a copy of the pages that were on the previous site with only a few cosmetic and editorial changes. In the coming weeks we will be bring a totally new site online with many improvements and new features, so stay tuned.
