Charles Atkinson

Charles Atkinson member Bethel Church and a member of Cleavenger Post No. 98 GAR, Spencer. Born Dec. 13, 1843 died July 29 1916 in Spencer: father of 8 children, 1 daughter preceded him. Buried Spencer Memorial Cemetery.

D. G. WOLFE DIES HERE THURSDAY NIGHT

Dennis G. Wolfe, 80 died Thursday night at 10:45 at the home of his son Dennie Wolfe. Death was attributed to old age. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 10:00 at the Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. W. R. Houck officiating and burial was in Stalnaker cemetery with Spencer Masonic lodge in charge. Mr, Wolfe was born on Lick Fork of Spring Creek and resided at the family home his entire life. He followed in the footsteps of his father as a farmer but served one term as Justice of the Peace in Spencer District. He was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Alkire Wolfe. Surviving is one son Dennie Wolfe of Spencer and 5 daughters, Mrs. Edna Hartenstine of Spencer, Mrs. Lucille Munsey of Springfield, Ohio and Mrs. Nell Neff, Misses Emma Wolfe and Lillian Wolfe all of Akron.

SPENCER MAN PASSES FRIDAY

Elijah Carpenter dies at home. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon for Elijah Carpenter 64 year old Spencer resident who died last Friday death was caused by tuberculosis Rev M.P. Lowe officiated at the rites which were conducted at Vandale Funeral Home. Interment was in Carpenter family cemetery. Mr. Carpenter was a native of Roane County a son of Joseph Carpenter and Sarah (Runnion) Carpenter, was a member of Methodist Protestant Church.

He is survived by his widow and two daughters Mrs. Delphia Wilson of Corning and Mrs. Margery Hersman of Gandeeville, 2 brothers John Carpenter of Spencer and Ben Carpenter of Waverly and 4 sisters, Cynthia Stevens of Spencer, Jane Trump of Charleston, Agnes Wilson of Akron and Mary Nester of Amma.

Obituaries : Elizabeth Alkire Wolfe

IN MEMORY OF AUNT "BETSY" WOLF

Elizabeth Alkire was born in Lewis county Sept. 30, 1821 and died at the old homestead four miles south of Spencer, in Roane county. Her father Nicholas Alkire was of German Decent and a native of the "Valley of Virginia" The mother was Elizabeth Bonnett also of German extraction was a granddaughter of Jesse Hughes the famous pioneer and Indian fighter. On Hackers Creek in Lewis county, Aunt Betsey then 21 married Joseph Beath Wolf (March 13, 1842). The next year the newly wedded couple leaving childhood scenes and friends of their youth packed all their earthly belongings on a single horse and set out to find a new home in an almost uninhabited section of Jackson county. Here to them were born 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls. Death removed the eldest Nicolas while yet a child. Those living are Mrs. Daniels, widow of J.W. Daniels, James E, Margaret wife of Rev. B.B. Evans now in Illinois, Bird widow of Thomas Paxton, Belle wife of A.J. Cutright, Blandis wife of Joseph Carpenter, Clara widow of Dr. L.P. Ross of Okla. and D.G. Rev. D. B. Warren and Beresford at conducted the funeral services the old homestead on the 22 March after which interment was made in Wilson Cemetery. At her request her husband remains were exhumed from the farm and both were buried in same grave at Wilson Cemetery.

(Elizabeth C Wolfe was born March 20, 1845 and died Feb. 4, 1925 aged 79 yrs 10 months and 12 days.)

Elizabeth C. Wolfe

Elizabeth C. Wolfe was born March 20, 1845 and died Feb. 4, 1925 aged 79 years 10 months and 12 days, she was married to James W. Daniel March 24, 1865 who preceded her to the grave 25 years ago. To this union were born five children 4 daughters and 1 son Clyde W. who departed this life June 1, 1891. She is survived by her daughters, Flora B Hughes, Ella Maude Hughes, June B. Daniell and Zona Sleeth, three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs Daniel was converted about 45 years ago and joined the M.E. Church. Pneumonia was cause of death, funeral services were conducted by Rev. Anderson last Thursday and interment was made in Wilson Cemetery on Lick Fork.
