Obituaries : Elizabeth Hoff
Posted by Webmaster on 2007/9/14 4:37:10 (1796 reads)

We are called upon to chronicle the death of Elizabeth Hoff which occurred Feb. 16, 1890. She was the daughter of Moses Mannier and was born in Monongalia county, W. Va., June 22, 1800; and was 89 years, 7 months, and 25 days old.

In the year 1816 she was married to John Hoff with whom she lived a devoted and loving wife till his death, Feb. 15, 1880, in the 83, year of his age.
Mother Hoff was blessed with a family of eleven children, 7 sons and four daughters, of whom four sons and one daughter are still living, the remainder having proceeded her to the spirit world.

Father and Mother Hoff were baptized by Elder Phineas Wells about the year 1818, and untied with the Baptist church in Harrison county. Thus she was a professor of the religion of Christ for more than 70 years, which profession she adorned by a truly christian life and God like conversation. She was a constant student of the Bible and was well qualified to give religious instruction to young and old. She leaves a great number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with a host of friends who let fall the silent tear of love at the loss of one so good and kind. But the bitterness of our sorrow is sweetened by the assurance of her great gain in relief from suffering here and entering upon the reward of the faithful.

He last illness was neither very long nor severe; she refused to take any medicine, saying, " I?m waiting for the summons and anxious to go home".

My children, neighbors, friends,
Let all your tears be dried,
I fall asleep in Jesus? arms,
He who for sinners died.
May be your thoughts engage;
May be your love obtain,
Then we will meet in that fair land,
And with our Savior again.
Pastor.
