Obituary of Jennie Hess

Jennie (Smith) Hess was born in Pendleton County, W.Va., Feb. 20, 1871. He father moved to Lewis county when she was 8 years of age. He died when she was 13, after which she went out from home to make her way in the world and help support her mother, who whas left with 8 children.

Later she secured a position in the Weston Hospital where she used her salary to support her mother, sisters, and brothers. Her mother's eyes were so affected as to need the aid of a specialist. Jennie came to her aid with the means to pay for the operation.

She was united in marriage to W. H. Hess at Weston by Rev. D. G. Helmick, May 26, 1897. To this union were born three children, Claud, Maple, and Clyde. Two are still living, Clyde having died Feb. 24, 1907.

Jennie died May 26, 1913, leaving a husband, 2 children, mother, 4 sisters and 3 brothers to mourn their loss.

The writer preached her funeral from 2 Samuel 20:18. "Thou shalt be missed because they seat will be empty." Jennie will be missed but not forgotten.

She gave her heart to God in her early childhood days and grew to be a patient, kind, and loving child of God. In her home, among her neighbors and where ever she lived, she had kind words for every one.

At the time of her death she was a member of the Pleasant Dale M. E. Church South. During her sickness, for some time before her death she was submissive and fully resigned to the will of God, praying to be released from this body of affliction. May God's grace be sufficient to sustain the bereaved ones until He calls them to meet mother in her home above.

Rev. L. H. Keffer
