Mining Your History Foundation
(MYHF) December 10, 2007 Please, share this with the members of your organization(s) and others. MYHF has been protesting the changing of the Archives reading room into a caf?. This is the proposal of Joe and Gayle Manchin, Kay Goodwin and Randall Reid-Smith. This will require moving the reading room to the lending library area and will cause the staff undue problems to access the materials located on the upper floors, as these will not be moved. It will, also, put the security of our state history documents in jeopardy. The firing of Fred Armstrong, without cause, we believe, was due to the fact that they think he was responsible for these protests. This is not correct, as he did not participate in the decision of MYHF to engage in this effort. This was totally done by the Board of MYHF. We are aware that we have no control over this firing, as he served at the "will and pleasure" of the Commissioner. But it is prudent to let those in office know of your displeasure in removing a person of his commitment and expertise. Our next rally will be Saturday, December 15, 2007 from 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm. We need your support!!!! If you cannot participate in person at our rallies, we would request that you write, email, call, or approach the Governor and your Legislators. Their addresses, emails, and phone numbers are readily available on the West Virginia website. www.legis.state.wv.us/# Members of the MYHF Board have expended their own monies in the effort, as no MYHF monies can be used for any other purpose except to assist the Archives in the purchase of materials. This is per the Constitution and Bylaws of the group. Some have spent several hundreds of dollars in printing, mailing, etc. If you would like to help by making a donation to this cause, mail same to Virginia Gillespie, 301 Lawson St, Hurricane, WV 25526; indicate "Protest Donation" on the memo line on your check. These are only two of many areas that has been done ignoring the laws and codes of West Virginia. Phil Kabler of the Charleston Gazette has been very diligent in reporting these things. His columns can be found online by accessing the paper, if you have not, already, seen them. Esther B Warner/Treasurer MYHF |

Subject: Blog with pictures of the Library Commission
As most of you are aware of, the plan is to close the reading room at the WV State Archives and combine it and all of the thousands of books housed in that area with the Library Commission's reading room across the Great Hall in the Cultural Center in Charleston, WV. In the blog below you will see what the Library Commission reading room looks like now. A rally is planned for 6:45 p.m. Saturday, December15, 2007 at the Governor's Mansion. You may find parking at the Cultural Center or the State Capitol employee's parking lot area. No need to pay meters on Saturdays. The move of the State Archives may be occurring as early as this month. Please call the Governor and your legislators as soon as possible. http://saveourarchives.blogspot.com/ -- Joetta McCallister Kuhn |
