Death of RCHS Member: Carol Cronin

Nancy Carol Cronin, 74, of Spencer, died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, after a brief illness. She was born July 27, 1943 at Ravenna, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Henry and Leona Helen Tawney McClain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cronin; children, Timothy James Cronin, Susan Carol Cronin and Joyce Ann Cronin; brothers, Billy Glen McClain, Ferrell Lee McClain, Alan Roy McClain and David Lynn McClain. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, David and Dona Cronin of Parkersburg and Danny and Amy Cronin of Spencer; siblings, John Leslie (Joyce) McClain of Anderson, S.C., Elizabeth Dianne (Roma) Short, Jr. of Spencer, Kathy Jane (Michael) Popp of Teays Valley and Edward Bryan (Barbie) McClain also of Spencer; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Carol was a retired employee of Hays & Company, Spencer. She was a former employee of the Spencer Hospital and State Farm Insurance. Carol was a 1961 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Charleston Business College. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church, Spencer. Carol was an active member of the Roane County Historical Society and was considered, by many, as the unofficial historian of Roane County. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a former den mother. She was also an avid bowler, who participated in the sport through 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 18 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and noon until 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
