We offer our congratulations to Caron Cronin for receiving the West Virginia History Hero award for her outstanding efforts to preserve the history of the people of Roane County through pictures.
Carol, a Spencer resident, works part-time for WVU through the HSTA program and also does seasonal accounting work. She is an active participant in many projects relating to preservation of Roane County history.

Carol was one of 44 [url=http://www.wvculture.org/history/hisher2010.html]History Heroes[/url] nominated by historical societies and other organizations through out the state. The awards were presented as part of the 14th West Virginia History Day, which was held on Thursday, February 18th, at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston.
Carol maintains an impressive collection of over 15,000 old photographs. But even more impressive is her untiring efforts to catalog, document and share these photos, connecting people with their own family histories in a powerful visual way.
If you have roots in the area, you probably can't spend more that a few minutes with Carol before she will connect you through photos to ancestors, cousins and others relations, often to ones you may never have realized. Her contributions in this area are immeasurable, and have brought history to life for those who have met her.
The isles around her displays at the society's annual genealogical fair are always packed with visitors. She also is the editor of [url=http://www.wvroane.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=248]The Roane County Journal[/url], the newsletter of the Roane County Historical Society. She even manges to post [url=http://www.wvroane.org/modules/myalbum/viewcat.php?uid=14]some gems[/url] here on our web site from time to time.
Carol, congratulations on your award, and even more importantly, [i]Thank you[/i] for all of your hard work in preserving our history. You are a true History Hero.
