Jack Nida - 2008 History Hero

We extend our congratulations to long time Roane County Historical Society member Jack Nida, who was honored as a [b]History Hero[/b] by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History. Jack, a retired business man who maintains a home in Amma, as well as in Atlanta, earned this award for his significant contributions during the past year to preserving the history of Roane County.

Jack was one of 40 people honored on the 12th annual West Virginia History Day, held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston. The awards ceremony, held in the State Theater of the Cultural Center, honored those individuals who had made significant grass-roots contributions to the preservation of local or regional history. Mr. Nida was nominated for this award by the Society for his work compiling the book, [url=http://www.wvroane.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=34]"Images of America: Roane County."[/url] In addition to this recent accomplishment, Jack has a long history of contribution to the Roane County Historical Society, including the establishment of the society's web site. He has also authored and published "The Family von Nida," a definitive work on the Nida and related family history.
