[b]MCMILLAN RITES[/b] Walter McMillan, 92, of Route e, Spencer, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Guy Jordan, at 7:40 p,m. last Thursday. Death was attributed to a stroke and followed a four-day illness. He was the lone survivor of a group of men who helped establish this city's first banking institution, known as The Bank of Spencer. Mr. McMillan was engaged in the lumber business for many years wand was known throughout this section. He was born on Feb. 16, 1861, in Marshall county, the son of Jordan and Bethsheba Knox McMillan. He moved to Roane from Wood county in 1867. His wife, Mrs. Alma Brannon McMillan. died in 1944. The deceased had been a member of the Otto A.C. Church since 1918. He helped erect the church structure. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Guy Jordan of Route 2, Spencer, and Mrs. Catherine Weltner, of Parkersburg; three sons, Hal and Leon of Otto and Akron; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Chambers of Wichita Falls, Texas; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rites were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Otto A. C. Church with the Revs. Herbert Spencer and Stanley Rowh officiating. Burial was in the Otto Cemetery under direction of the Sinnett funeral home.
