We offer our congratulations to Caron Cronin for receiving the West Virginia History Hero award for her outstanding efforts to preserve the history of the people of Roane County through pictures.

Carol, a Spencer resident, works part-time for WVU through the HSTA program and also does seasonal accounting work. She is an active participant in many projects relating to preservation of Roane County history.

Roane County Historical Society is proud to announce the 16th Annual Roane County Genealogical Fair will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Park Community Building in Spencer.

To reserve table space to sell books & other genealogy related materials you may contact Johanna Nutter, Fair Chairperson, at 304-927-0390 or e-mail her at johanna@wvroane.org. Cost per table: $10. Those persons needing table space, but not selling anything, need to reserve table space as well.

Mr. Joe Geiger, director of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History Archives, will be our 10 a.m. guest speaker for the fair.

Roane County Historical Society is proud to announce the 15th Annual Genealogical Fair will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Heritage Park in Spencer.

Recently the Roane County site went up for adoption on WVGenWeb, and the Roane County Historical Society stepped up as the new sponsor. Rick Greathouse is the new county coordinator, and Richard Griffith will be assisting him. The first step was to move the site to a new home at www.wvgenweb.org/roane.
