Obituaries : Obituary: Richard Marks

Richard Marks, 83, a longtime Maryland resident, died Dec. 15, 2015.Mr. Marks was born in Charleston to a West Virginia pioneer family, and grew up in Dunbar. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former employee of both the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, from which he retired in July 1989. He subsequently taught a wide variety of subjects at colleges and authored several books and more than 300 articles of genealogical and historic interest. He was also a frequent contributor of books and historic items to various museums and libraries.He was a graduate of the University of Charleston, Marshall University and George Washington University, and did post-graduate studies at American University. He established endowed scholarships at the University of Charleston and Marshall University and provided for scholarships at George Washington University and the University of Arizona.Mr. Marks is survived by his daughter, Tereza Marks Glenn; sister, Carolyn Abbott; and brother, Benton Marks.Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Sharyn Abbott officiating. Obituary: Miss Betty Irene Boggs
August 27, 2014

Miss Betty Irene Boggs, 84, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

She was born July 14, 1930 in Roane County, a daughter of the late Howard R. and Grace Wilson Boggs.

She was a 1948 Spencer High School graduate, attended Potomac State College and received her degree in English from Marshall University. She began her teaching career in 1952 and retired after 51 years of service to multiple generations of Roane County students. Miss Boggs was a beloved educator, an avid reader and an advocate of lifelong learning. She enjoyed and appreciated all things of beauty; the written word, treasured glassware and antiques, and a love of family and friends.

She is survived by three brothers, Harvey, Clarence R. “Tink”, and David Boggs, all of Spencer; five nieces and nephews, Douglas, Michael and Larry Boggs, Brenda Fisher and Brigitte Lowe; eleven great-nieces and nephews, Jacob, Daniel and Laura Grace Boggs, Kayla White, Ashley and Alyssa Boggs, Benjamin Bailey, Grayson Fisher, J. Alex Lowe, and Michael Jon and Cristopher Cole Boggs; and one great-great nephew, Amos Lee White.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Bruce Boggs.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME in Spencer with Rev. Russell Stump officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Spencer. Visiting hours are Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home

Obituaries : Olive Opal Ogden

Birth: Dec. 14, 1929
Death: Mar. 1, 1934

Olive Opal Ogden, a beautiful child, so loved by her family. She passed on at the age of four from pneumonia.

She is descended from Robert F. Ogden & Mariah Deliah Smith Ogden (Great Grandparents); William Wesley & Margaret Chewning Ogden (Grandparents); Robert Kellis & Buena Wilson Ogden (Parents); Robert Bowman Ogden, Ruth Marie Ogden, & Virginia Hiet Ogden (Brother & Sisters).

Inscription:
Jesus said; "I am the resurrection and the Life."

"Look!, the tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.

Note: There is a headstone with her name next to her grandparents William Wesley & Margaret Chewning Ogden

Dr. Melvin G. Nida, 89, died at his home on Monday, September 21, 2009. Dr. Nida was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, June 4, 1920, the son of Amos William. Nida and Bertha E. Peck Nida. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Brissey; a son, Larry Nida and his wife, Vicki, of West Milford; and a daughter, Sylvia Nida Worrall and her husband. William, of Marshall, Virginia.
