I Am New to Roane County, West Virginia!

Hello There!
I am a new resident to Roane County. My Husband and I just purchased a Home just outside of Spencer. We picked this State, West Virginia, This County, Roane, this Town, Spencer. From all the choices we had from across the USA.
We choose this area because of its Unique Natural Beauty. I am charmed by the local peoples. The distinct West Virginia culture & the heart of West Virginia accents I hear everyday. This area is unique to its own. I Love it here.
On any given day, I watch Deer, Fox, Rabbits & Nasty Possums cross my yard & some type of Hawk like bird along with a variety of different colors of birds in the sky. I have let to find out what kind of Havoc these critters are going to cause me in my Garden come spring. No Doubt I am going to have to learn a variety of clever ways of, CRITTERS BE GONE FROM MY GARDEN - OR ELSE! Any suggestion welcomed. I am currently trying to learn what grows best and when to plant it for this area. I am very interested in the History of the area. I haven't read all the postings yet, but I will. I did read the Posting for information on The Old Hospital for the Insane. Where is this Old Hospital Located exactly & is the original structure still there & what is it used for today???
Anyways, it will be very nice to meet anyone in friendship here. How do you do...

Hello Dana,
Thank you for your interest in our Society. Please come to our next meeting, they are held on the basement floor of the Roane County Library. This is our off season, our next meeting is not until March. Our history room is open every day, just check in with the Library and they will let you in. All the information is for in-house use, but you will find it very useful. Do you or your husband have any ancestors from West Virginia. We have information from several counties of the State. See you at the next meeting.
