Hardman - Cunningham
Posted by hardmar on 2008/9/18 23:16:24
Two of my ancestors are reportedly buried on the family homestead which was said to be on the middle fork of the Reedy wherever that may be...
Benjamin B. Hardman 1801-1865
Sira Leah Cunningham 1796-1874
She was the daughter of Thomas/Phoebe Cunningham of Indian War fame.
Anyone have knowledge of gravesite location and condition of any headstones?
Also, I have not been able to find any death records for them, or birth records for their son Thomas 1824-1904. Anyone have anything here?
Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rick,
I don't have the answers you are looking for. But this is my family too, through Emily Grace Hardman. So if you are looking for other info, let me know.

I am also descended from Emily Hardman Ingram Argabrite, daughter of Sira Leah Cunningham and Benjamin G. Hardman. Although some records indicate that Sira Leah Hardman was buried with her husband, she is actually buried in the H.C. McWhorter plot in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV. Her daughter, Mary Leah, was married to Henry Clay McWhorter. I assume that as a widow of 9 years Sira was living with her daughter and son-in-law at the time of her death on 15 July 1874. I have not visited the cemetery myself but have a photo of the headstone in that cemetery that I would be willing to share.

Thanks for the info to date - I will investigate the leads.
Also, I do have headstone and marker photos and GPS locations for Thomas Cunningham and Phoebe Cunningham for anyone that is interested.

Just returned from a couple of days in WV. Found Leah (Cunningham) Hardman headstone at Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston - Section 6, plot 17 of the old section. GPS locations: 38.35064 -81.61345. Found Thomas Cunningham gravesite (at homestead - now private property) 39.077480 -81.057110 and Pheobe (Tucker) Cunningham site (Shimer-Gainer Cemetery) 39.002385 -81.111967
Have photos of stones and DAR markers as well - contact me if you have need of. Still no luck with Benjamin Hardman...
