I am searching for information on James McComas Short (McShort, "Com" Short??) born around 1855 in Roane County, married to Mary Ellen McCune, born around 1868?? They are the parents of Bertha Rebecca Short (married Charles Edward Nida)

Does anyone know who the parents of James McComas are? Or Mary Ellen McCune?

In the 1860 Roane Co. Census it lists:

Morris 47 b. Indiana
Margaret (McCune) 38 b. VA

Thank you for this information. Although I have suspected that Morris Short is the father of James McComas, I had not been able to find anything that would make that connection. This information helps me to have something to build on.

1900 Census Roane Co., WV Geary Dist., Fam.#37-37
James Mc. [44-b. July 1855] & Mary E. Short and 5 children: Bertha R., Mirtie F., George W., Anna M. and James E.
Married 18 years and 5 of 8 children living. Indicates that his father b. Indiana, mother WV.

Mary Ellen McCune-Short was the daughter of Barnabus Cook McCune and Elizabeth S. Drennen who were married in Kanawha Co., VA(WV) 11 Mar 1852.

James & Mary Ellen are buried at the Payne Cem., Clio, Roane Co., WV.

Thank you so much for this information. This helps me to move forward with Mary Ellen McCune. But I find that she and James McComas Short were 1st cousins, since Barnabas Cook McCune and Margaret McCune-Short were brother and sister.

But, I still cannot find any information on the parents or siblings of Morris Short. I know he was born in Indiana, but I can't find any other information about him anywhere....I'll keep looking
