Frank Bise was born in Reedy District, WV, on 8 July 1923, son of Oscar W. Bise and Vesta M (Ball) Bise. He served in the US Army during WWII (9 Feb 43 to 22 Dec 45)as a truck driver with the 270th Ordance Motor Vehicle Distribution in France. He hauled, rations, gasoline, ammunition and supplies. He married Mary Alice Hetzer and lived most of his life in Reedsville, OH. He died March 4, 1999 in Parkersburg, WV and is buried in the Reedsville Cemetery, Reedsville, OH.

Do you recognize this young soldier identified on photos as Jack Hively.  Circa 1940's.  This pic was in the Ralph Lowery photo collection donated to the RCHS earlier this year.  Ralph's gt grandmother was a Hively....

This picture shows James Hodam with with his aged father Adam Hodam, his son Robert M Hodam,his grandson Lowell Adam.   James served with the Co. C, 17th Va Cavalry for the duration of the war.  He was wounded at New Creek, WV and had his horse shot out from under him at Gettysburg.  He was also present for Lee's surrender at Appomatox.  His family has the rifle he carried all through the war.

Leman's obituary from the Houston Chronicle read:
LEMAN JAMES GRIFFITH was born December 22, 1917 in Looneyville, West Virginia. He passed from this life on February 13, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Leman had been proud to serve his country in the United States Army. Mr. Griffith was a survivor of the tragedy that took the lives of so many soldiers at Pearl Harbor. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday February 14, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. . Interment will follow in Clearwater, Florida at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.

Miles Perrine was born in Strange Creek, VA (WV) on 15 APR 1831. He died on 18 NOV 1885 in Spencer, WV and is buried in the Spencer Memorial Cemetery, Spencer, WV.

Assigned to CPT William F. Pell Co. 193rd Virginia (WV) Militia.

Corpl. Rector Ray "Rex" Douglas (b 27 Oct 1889 Roane County WVA, d 4 Jan 1934 Spencer WVA).

In Europe during WW I.  He was a Corporal in the 314 Field Artillery Ordnance Detachment, American Expedition Force, 80th Division. Service Number 1835794.
Departed Brest France 17 May 1919 on the USS Zeppelin to Camp Stewart, Newport News VA.

Spencer McClellan b. 25 Nov 1918 Roane Co., WV, d. 13 Oct 1943 MIA over the SW Pacific Ocean around Madang, Papua New Guinea (MID 56784346). Memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines.

Upon his death he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. His unit was the 405 Bomb Squad 38 Bombardier Group.
