My Dad, Gene Suttle, was born and raised in Roane County. When his school burned in 1926 or 27, the county did not have the money to build another one. A local farmer gave his permission to use his sheep barn as a school so that is where my Dad went to school for two years. The other student's were Dad's brothers, Dick and Frank Suttle, Ed Hall, Vera Hall, Harold Schrekengaust, Oral Schrekengaust, Gladys Schrekengaust, Dorothy Schrekengaust, Dorcy Schrekengaust, Arlene Summers, Avis Chatman, James Chatman, John Chatman.  Dad is 84 now, so if he has left anyone out, it was not intentional.  Two years ago we took Dad back to Roane County and one of the places he really wanted to visit was his old school house. He was very surprised to find it still standing. Otto school... sheep barn, was located on the farm of Hence Hall and Ray Redding. It is the first house below the mouth of Orchard Run three miles below Otto and about 1 1/2 miles above the mouth of Beech. They went to school there and also held church and Sunday School there as well until the Cove Run School was built. Hope you enjoyed this as much as we did.
